This leads to some fundamental problems with availability
of certain sizes for well cut stones. As an example, a D colour Flawless
diamond of 1.00ct can yield as much as 70% more revenue than a diamond
of 0.99ct. This is an extreme example, but diamond cutters are under pressure
to cut stones to produce the greatest financial return from any given piece
of rough. Diamonds that should weigh 0.90ct to 0.99ct, if they had an excellent
make, consequently finish with weights of 1.00ct or more and provide a
greater return for the owner.
